The Above Mission: Quality Beyond the Rest
At Acer Edge, we only partner with brands that prioritize the longevity of your career and the precision of your art. That is why we are proud to be an authorized retailer for Above Shears.
The name ABOVE comes from a singular mission: providing quality shears that are truly above and beyond the rest. Forged with pride, these shears are handcrafted by highly skilled shear masters from 100% premium proprietary cobalt steel.
The Above team combines decades of expert experience designing and manufacturing some of the world’s most popular shears for high-volume stylists, hairdressers, and barbers. When you invest in Above, you are investing in a steel masterpiece built for intense daily performance and elite professional use.
Engineering & Ergonomics That Protect Your Hands
Stylists spend hours perfecting their craft, which is why Above focuses heavily on the anatomy of the hand. Their first-class manufacturing process delivers tools that feel like a natural extension of your arm.
-
Elite Ergonomic Handles: Intelligently designed to reduce hand fatigue, drop the shoulder, and protect your wrist during long days behind the chair.
-
Exaggerated Finger Rests: Provides superior leverage and stability, giving you absolute control over every slide, blunt, or point cut.
-
Master-Honed Edges: Hand-finished by master craftsmen to ensure a butter-smooth "ride" and zero pulling.

CARING FOR YOUR ABOVE SHEARS
Your Above Shears are a masterpiece of proprietary cobalt steel and precision engineering. To ensure they continue to glide smoothly and protect your hands from fatigue, proper daily maintenance is essential.
Follow this expert routine to extend the lifespan of your investment and maintain peak cutting performance.
1. Clean After Every Use
-
The Routine: Use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe down your blades after every haircut.
-
Why it matters: Even if you only cut clean, dry hair, microscopic fragments and product residues accumulate on the blades and in the pivot area.
-
What to avoid: Never use dish soap or harsh household cleaners, which can strip the protective finish and cause corrosion. Avoid abrasive cloths that can scratch the polished steel.
2. Oil Daily
-
The Routine: At the end of every day, open your shears to a 90-degree angle and put a single drop of high-quality shear oil in the pivot area. Open and close the shears a few times to distribute the oil, then wipe away any excess.
-
Why it matters: Oiling reduces friction, prevents rust, and flushes out tiny hair fragments stuck in the tension system.
-
What to avoid: Never skip oiling! Neglecting this step causes the blades to wear out faster and forces your hand to work harder.
3. Check Tension Regularly
-
The Routine: Hold your shears by the finger ring pointing straight up. Lift the thumb handle up to a 90-degree angle and let it drop. It should stop smoothly at about the 11 o'clock or 10 o'clock position (roughly halfway closed).
-
Why it matters: If the tension is too loose, the hair will fold or bend instead of cutting cleanly. If it is too tight, it will cause unnecessary wear on the blades and cause hand fatigue.
4. Safe Storage
-
The Routine: When not actively cutting, place your shears on a soft surface. At the end of the day, store them completely closed in a cushioned protective case or sheath.
-
What to avoid: Never throw your shears in a drawer or leave them loose on a hard countertop where the blades can get chipped or misaligned. Avoid the common mistake of storing them in a glass jar with disinfectant; soaking them too long can damage the steel, and hitting the tips against the bottom will ruin your point-cutting precision.

When It’s Time to Sharpen or Service
Even with perfect daily care, high-volume professional use means your shears will eventually need expert calibration.
Watch for these red flags at your station:
-
The shears are pushing, sliding, or folding the hair instead of giving a crisp cut.
-
You are feeling increased resistance, or your hands and wrists are getting tired faster than usual.
-
You can see visible nicks, chips, or dull spots along the edge of the blade.
-
Adjusting the tension screw no longer fixes the balance of the blades.

Don't risk DIY sharpening. Incorrect angles or coarse grinding can permanently ruin premium cobalt steel and shorten the life of your shears.
